SWANN

The unconventional pearl necklace.

The pearl is traditionally synonymous with glamour and beauty. I had been attracted to using it in my jewellery but wanted to do so with the Youmna signature . I wanted to bring in a rock n roll edginess to pearls in jewellery.  This led pairing pearls of different color and size with a long  silver chain that can be wrapped around the neck or worn looser. The contrast of the industrial, raw look of the chain with the luster of the pearls was beautiful to me.

Yet with the rough look of the chain, the contrast of femininity and elegance came as well  through the gentle curvature in the neck of the hook of the pearls. They resemble the neck of a Swan, thus the name of the collection. The double “n” is a nod to French author Proust whom my father loved to read and his book Swann.
