COLOMBO
An homage to Francois-Xavier Lalanne, a French sculptor whom I greatly admire, who often uses animal imagery to create unique pieces. A particular lamp called Pigeon, in the shape of a bird with an inflated glass ball chest, was what inspired this collection.
The big glass ball sparked the idea of using a big pearl as the stomach of the bird instead, perching restfully, contently on a ring. To create a surreal concept using pearls and one of that size was an unusual idea.
As a contrast and balanced pairing, I created a pair of flat earrings in the shape of the bird. Though they are flat, but they’re not created the same, with one bird flying downwards as though to catch its prey, and the other bird flying upwards to reach the sky. An expression of movement and life.
